PNM Rate Hike Action ABQ July 31, Santa Fe Aug 7

coal pollution smallWe need a big turnout at the PERA Building on Aug. 7 at 9am to oppose PNM’s latest rate hike.

While there’s been some positive news for the climate this month (like the US Court of Appeals decision in defense of the Methane Rule and California’s decision to strengthen and extend their cap and trade program), there’s also been some really harrowing news. Globalwitness.org and the Guardian teamed up to document and bring visibility to the fact that in the last year more environmental activists across the globe have been murdered than ever before for standing up against corporations to defend the land and their communities.

Meanwhile, here at home, PNM continues to implicate us all in their toxic investments in coal and nuclear – by offloading their environmentally destructive assets onto ratepayers and jacking up our electricity rates to cover the financial costs.

Their new proposed rate increase of $750 million includes $200 million of costs at both
the Four Corners Coal Plant and the San Juan Coal Plant, and $88 million for more nuclear. New Energy Economy is the only opposing party – but we know that we stand in opposition with thousands of New Mexicans- like you!

Standing up right now takes courage – and collective power.

Thank you for your partnership!
