Moral Monday Feb 20 at the Roundhouse

Moral Mondays Come to New Mexico

Retake Our Democracy is working with the New Mexico Progressive Coalition (NMPC) and IATSE to stage a full day of lobbying, speeches, music, food and activism.  The NMPC is coordinating lobbying activities between 8am and 12.

8am – 12 Noon: We encourage all to join us in the morning (West Side, Inside the Round House) for direct citizen lobbying with our legislators. Check in there to pick up important info and get updates for the day. Click here for NMPC’s legislative priorities. They are entirely consistent with the priorities of Retake Our Democracy and we encourage all our folks to join them.

12 Noon-2pm Retake Our Democracy Moral Monday. Our Theme:  Forging Alliances to Create a Common Moral Ground. Confirmed speakers (with more to be added) include:  Viki Harrison, Executive Director, Common Cause;  Marcela Diaz, Somos Un Pueblo Unido; Mariel Nanasi, Executive Director, New Energy Economy; Bianca Sopoci-Belknap, Executive Director Earth Care; Ernest Kavanaugh, Santa Fe Community College Ambassador Program. We will also have two SFCC students who are working with Retake to form an activist hub on the campus. We are also organizing a tremendous lineup of musicians and a dramatic demonstration linking the policies of our President and our Governor on the lives of Americans. Keep checking in here for more details as they come together.

Moral Monday has been happening at the Round House for several years now; the idea originated in North Carolina. Check out the inspiration — William J. Barber, II — if you need to be convinced how powerful these events can be!

2:30pm – 4:15pm: Then, we will be hearing from regular working-class people speaking about how the actions of the legislature and state government affect themselves and their communities at the PEOPLE’S RALLY! Power to the People!
