All meetings are at 1420 Cerrillos Rd. in Santa Fe.
Jan 3, Citizen Advocacy-Lobbying. We will fine-tune our strategies for lobbying in the Round House. We have reached out to some key lobbying organizations and will have good summaries and contact info for our allies in this work.
Jan 3, Outreach & Engagement. Community Conversations and Other Strategies to Diversify & Expand Our Base. We will prioritize the strategies identified in our meetings on Sunday. One thing we really want to prioritize is to reach out to activists in other parts of the state and help them mobilize, as we have people who have signed up in about 10 counties and now people from Texas, California, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
Jan 5, 5:30-7pm Research. We will review and discuss the research protocol developed by a small group of Research members and clarify assignments, organize the issues being researched into broader categories, and identify coordinators for each issue area. We also need to identify a Research Coordinator to oversee all the work.
Jan 12, 6pm-7:30pm Citizen Advocacy -Lobbying. We will finalize our advocacy strategies and assignments for the beginning of the Round House session to begin the following week.
Jan 12, 5:30-7pm. Media & Social Media. We will refine tasks and strategies, clarify roles, and identify leadership for various roles and functions.
Jan 17, 5:30-7pm Non-Violent Direct Action (formerly Civil Disobedience). Continue discussion of strategies and clarify roles and priorities. Under the advice of our attorney, we will not be organizing any actions that are illegal. We see the value of this kind of work, but an organization can only do so much and we fear that this could compromise our larger purpose of engaging a wider base, many of whom could be deterred by illegal activities.
Jan 17, 5:30-7:30pm Research Action Team. We will receive training in the use of research sources and finalize research topics and teams. After this meeting all attending will have a clear idea of their topic, how to conduct the research and how to begin.
Jan 26, 5:30-7pm. Leadership Orientation. We will discuss the roles available throughout the organization, the plan for training and expectations of individuals volunteering for leadership roles. Individuals who want to participate in this meeting must click the link for Leadership Orientation, review that document and submit a personal statement in advance of the 26th meeting.
While no longer an Action Team of Retake Our Democracy, one of our leaders, Susan Popovich is coordinating an effort to invigorate and activate the Santa Fe County Democratic Wards. For more information, contact Susan at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Jan 5, Ward Activism. The group will follow up on the December meeting and identify strategies for recruiting a far larger number of activists to come to vote at the Ward elections. By Jan 5, we should know the date of the elections. The Ward Activism Team is providing a framework for helping people transform the ward system: 1) elect active Ward chairs who hold ward meetings and create a forum for local activism and discussion; 2) elect progressive County and State Central Committee members who can work within the party to transform the party and make it more open. A page on Ward Activism is coming soon.
