3-16-23 Alert

Good Afternoon, New Mexico Activists:

Less than two days remaining! The Session ends at noon on Saturday. Today we look at bills that might still have a chance to pass with a little pressure from all of us. There is little committee action at this point, with most of the energy being put into House and Senate Floor session to pass as many bills as possible before the end of the session.

Below are bills on the House Floor Calendar today that have not been heard as of 3:15 p.m. They are Senate bills, which means a vote on the House Floor is the final step to passing. (House bills on the House calendar still need to go to at least one Senate committee and the Senate floor, and we don’t believe there’s time for that to happen, so we’re not acting on those.)

SB 44 Prohibit Firearms at Polling Places

SB 337 Water Security Planning Act

SB 13 Reproductive Health Provider Protections

SB 53 Storage of Certain Radioactive Waste

Please call and email Speaker Javier Martinez to urge him to hear these bills. And please call and email your own House Rep. to urge him/her to pass these bills. You don’t need talking points, just ask that the bills to be heard, and ask your Rep. to vote in favor.

As for the Senate Floor, please call and email Senate Leader Peter Wirth to urge him NOT to hear SB 493 Brackish Water Reuse. And please call and email your own Senator to urge him/her to vote “NO” on SB 493 if does come to a vote.

FYI, HB 547 Tax Changes, the Omnibus Tax Bill, went back to the House for concurrence today (because the Senate made amendments after the House passed the bill). The House failed to concur, so the bill goes back to the Senate with a request to remove the amendments. We’ll see what happens!

We’ll send you an update tomorrow to tell you the good news/bad news about which bills have passed, which haven’t, and if there’s any more we can do to push a few more over the finish line. Thank you for being with us during this 2023 Session!

In Gratitude & Solidarity,

Roxanne and Paul
