Health Security Act Statewide Meeting & Reminder @ Roundhouse Rally–Wear Yellow

Just a quick announcement and a reminder. There is a statewide meeting in ABQ to strategize together to finally get the Health Security Act passed and a reminder: Wednesday, May 24, 11-1pm Rally at the Round House and WEAR YELLOW.  Tomorrow’s post: a comprehensive look at the genocide in Yemen, our role, and the historic roots to the conflict. No More War!

 Before the action notices, a quick reminder that yesterday’s post was sent out late morning, so missed by many and it is a very thoughtful review of what comes after neoliberalism, with a great summary followed by a Robert Reich video on how universal basic income works and could significantly impact our most vulnerable populations.  Click here.

We Need Fulling Funding for Higher Ed

May 24. 11am-1pm. Roundhouse, Santa Fe. Special Session Opens.  EVERYONE WEAR YELLOW.  A special should out to anyone wearing yellow pants. A host of organizations (partial list below) are collaborating in organizing a massive protest to let the GOP and some Democrats know that we are mad as hell — we are not amused that our universities and colleges are being held hostage by a vengeful Governor and a GOP that refuses to stand up to her. We are also not happy that the Health Security Act, meaningful predatory lending reform, investments in early childhood, hemp research, renewable energy targets, and a host of other important bills have not been passed.

IATSE is providing a stage and the schedule is as follows: 11-11:45 speakers from the Roundhouse. 11:45-12:30 March around the Roundhouse (still to be determined if we march to the Governor’s office and back). 12:30 Open Mike, an opportunity for the people to speak. We’re marching to restore higher education funding and give our state a bright future and much more. The list of groups involved in organizing this include (very partial list):

  • Democratic Party of New Mexico (and many county party organizations, including Santa Fe and Bernalillo),
  • OurRevolution,
  • Young Progressive Democrats of America,
  • IATSE;
  • Progressive Democrats of American, Central New Mexico,
  • Indivisible,
  • Democratic Socialists of America,
  • Retake Our Democracy,
  • Nasty Women;
  • Working Families;
  • Southwest Organizing Project.
For more info, go to this Facebook event page and please share this on your personal page.  I want to be clear. This is an opportunity to send a message not just to the Governor and the GOP, but also to the handful or more of Democrats who have a habit of crossing the aisle on important issues. All Martinez needs is 5 Democrats to cross the aisle now. That can’t happen. Yes, this is about restoring cuts to education but it is also about insisting on a moral budget. Let’s do this.

Connect with other Health Security supporters from across the state and help shape our strategy to get the Health Security Act to the governor’s desk in 2019. That may seem like a long time away, but we have a lot to do between now and then if we want to be successful.Laying a strong groundwork for success is especially important given what is going on in Washington DC these days. Whether you first heard about the Health Security Act recently, or have been a longtime supporter, we invite you to join us on June 3.
Please RSVP to hsnmc.contact@gmail.com so we know how many people to expect. For lunch orders (see below), respond by Monday, May 29.
In solidarity,
Paul & Roxanne
