A Movement, Not Just A March. Snow or No: Stand for Women

This blog includes details on how Retake Our Democracy will be marching together on Saturday. Please be there snow or no.. The blog also includes a mesmerizing video of a 15 year old boy with an absolutely riveting message, info on resisting the Trump inauguration & info on 2 actions on Wednesday.

stand_up_for_women-ngps2252_copy_1024x1024First, I want to thank my wife, Roxanne, for yesterday’s blog. It was such a deeply personal statement. I write about issues and and about other people; she wrote very personally about herself and that takes courage. If you missed yesterday’s post, click here. It was very different from other posts, up close and very personal.

Resisting Trump.  Turn your TV on now to any channel that doesn’t broadcast the inauguration. Leave it on that channel until the inauguration is over. If you want to see what Trump says, watch it on YouTube later. A small act, but …. there is a bigger ask for Saturday. Snow or No. You need to be at the Women’s march. Read on.

Okay, 70% chance of snow, temps around 30 degrees. That had best not deter any of you. I see this weather as an opportunity to show what this movement is made of. Snow is why we have winter coats, umbrellas, boots, mittens, scarves, and leggings. And when 3000 people show up, march and then stand outside to listen to speakers for 2 hours in snow and 30 degree weather that grabs the media’s attention. There is a direct correlation between the impact of an action and the sacrifice involved, so be there. The inclement weather is our opportunity to show New Mexico that we are pissed, organized and ready to march. Info on marches throughout NM including the Santa Fe route are included at the bottom of this post.  You will also find important calls to action on Wednesday (Supreme Court in the morning and City Council Sanctuary at 5)  and the announcement of a Social Media Training with extremely limited space, so RSVP today. Details below.

And when the march is over, we will be back at it the next day: calling our representatives, doing research, conducting outreach, getting informed, and being trained. Every damned day. But what we will not be is silent. What we will not be is docile. What we will be is visible and loud, on Saturday, snow or no, and then on Wednesday morning at the Supreme Court and on Wednesday at 5pm at the City Council (info on both below). And when that is done we will be active every single day until justice prevails, i.e. a very long haul.

Before a series of announcements, try this on for size. Royce Mann absolutely torches the stage with a 3 minute rap that will blow you away and inspire you to overcome tomorrow’s cold. He hits most every injustice with a refrain of Rise Up.

So, Saturday, snow, sleet, hail, or chill, Rise Up Santa Fe. Rise Up.         If this kid doesn’t juice your engines, nothing will.

  1. I tried to RSVP for training on social media for two persons and not sure how to do so.  RSVP is via Facebook which I don’t really know how to use – why I want to come to the training.  I want to register myself, Frances Cox and Tom Bleich.Thank-you,Frances

    • It is great you want to learn to use FB more effectively. We checked and you are RSVP’d. Now just ask Tom to RSVP himself. He is on the media team and so very likely knows how to do this. FB does not allow you to RSVP for anyone but yourself. Lots to learn for all of us.
