December 11, 2:30pm Action Planning. We are hosting an Action Planning Meeting on Dec. 11 where we will take the energy from the room at our November 20 Town Hall and channel it into action. Please note this meeting is NOT being held at 1420 Cerrillos, but at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 107 W Barcelona Rd. In small breakouts we will discuss:
- How can we lobby the Roundhouse and our City Council?
- How can we mount a sustained and effective media and social media campaign?
- How can we conduct community conversations, door-to-door, in meet-ups and house parties and generate consensus about what we need from our City and State?
- How can we effectively conduct outreach to expand and diversify our base in Santa Fe and across the state?
- How can we use civil disobedience to make our voices heard? And
- How can we use research to identify and promote a range of policies, legislation and strategies that effectively promote the best interests of common people. Us.

Is DAPL Stopped? Apparently Energy Transfer Partners, the partnership driving the DAPL drilling, has not given up. While the Army Corps of Engineers has denied the easement, there is evidence that Energy Transfer Partners may defy the Corps, accept a $50,000 a day fine and forge on. If so, I hope the same military/police presence that has assaulted the Water Protectors, will now turn their water canons, tear gas, and dogs on the drillers violating the law. The statement below was issued by Energy Transfer Partners, hours after the Army Corps of Engineers denial of the easement.
“As stated all along, ETP and SXL are fully committed to ensuring that this vital project is brought to completion and fully expect to complete construction of the pipeline without any additional rerouting in and around Lake Oahe. Nothing this Administration has done today changes that in any way.”

man, its so frustrating. i am out of town until mid-dec so will miss these. when i get back i’m ready. i’m sure you will blast the needed info but if you want to pass my name on, please do. i have over 25 years experience facilitating group discussions that were often contentious by nature. I am concerned about creating another bureaucracy with the “Public Bank” idea. Credit unions are locally owned, every person gets one vote for who runs the organization, the rates are usually better than a bank, the fees are less than a bank. Granted, some of the local credit unions have no idea about customer service, but having spent 30+ years in credit unions in Oregon, I just have BIG concerns about this public bank issue. Remember the 70’s and 2008? The structure of a bank is very regulated as are credit unions but the structure is different in the the board is voted in by the members in a credit union and not so with a bank. Just lots to consider with these ideas.
Tremendous comment. But much of your concerns have been addressed by a national movement of very well informed individuals. No public bank will suddenly appear and much of the public debate will be focused on addressing your concerns. But for my money, I’d rather have a community managed and administered bank house our city funds than Wells Fargo or BoA. There are so many very positive reasons for creating this kind of bank. But many people like you have questions and it is important that you ask them so that they can be answered. But Wells and BoA simply should not be holding our funds. They do nothing for us. We are creative folks here and can create a framework that protects the funds and allows for the advantages of public banking to fund a wide variety of city / county infrastructure needs. Stay tuned. This is an issue I have been tracking for three years and have a good deal of interest in.
One local group is advocating the boycotting of Phillips66 gas stations. At last week’s rally, it was mentioned that this might hurt AllSups which is an employer of immigrants. What is your thought on that now? Would more harm be caused by this boycott than good—or is this something we should support.
I have not had time to reach out to Allsups, but plan to this week. But my gut tells me that the difference between Phillips 66, Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, Shell and most any other oil companies is minimal. They are all destroying the planet. Moveover, most of us are driving gas-driven cars, even if we try to limit it. So while I could see a time when boycotts of this sort are launched, in this instance, with Allsups being locally owned and hiring so many immigrants, I am inclined to hit the pause button. Phillips isn’t going to be hurt at all by such a boycott but our immigrants could be. Besides, a move like this shouldn’t be launched just by me. I’d like our membership to weigh in.
