Greetings New Mexico Activists:
I have to say that in the 6 years we’ve been closely following our legislative sessions, we’ve never seen one quite as perplexing and frustrating as this one. We will continue to do our best to keep you accurately informed, but the subterfuge and disarray are posing quite a challenge!
Hydrogen Hub 3 (HB 228) is still being heard in House Commerce & Economic Development as I write this (8:40 pm). Thank you for showing up and speaking against this bill. We’ll update you tomorrow on the outcome.
Good news: HB 132, the 36% small loan rate bill, passed unanimously tonight in Senate Health & Public Affairs. Now it moves on to Senate Judiciary. We’ll say more about this in tomorrow’s Alert.
Both HB 6 Clean Future Act and HJR 2 Environmental Rights (Green Amendment) were held over from today’s hearings until Friday. We’ll get you info about those hearings as soon as they’re posted. Again, we apologize for the reversal on HB 6 – we now support instead of oppose – but we hope you will read our reasons why in the link above.
Tomorrow looks mostly manageable, with three new hearings:
NEW! Thurs., Feb. 10, 9 a.m., Rm. 311, Senate Conservation is scheduled to hear HB 37 Community Energy Efficiency Development Block Grant. Please read the talking points at the link above and call and email committee members right away to encourage them to vote “YES” on HB 37. We also encourage you to join the Zoom to offer public comments, take the on-screen polls, and express your support.

NEW! Thurs., Feb. 10, ½ hr. after floor session ends, Rm. 321, Senate Tax, Business & Transportation is scheduled to hear SB 44 New Solar Market Development Income Tax Credit Changes and SB 21 Electric Vehicle Income Tax Credit. This is the first hearing for both of these bills, so they’re going to need a big push to get through this committee, then Senate Finance, the Senate Floor and to the House, where they will likely need to pass through two committees before going to the House Floor. I’m not sure that can happen in just 8 days, but it’s possible! And our advocacy will help. Please call and email committee members tonight and/or Thursday morning to ask them vote “yes” on these bills. We encourage you to participate in the hearing Zoom to offer public comment, take the on-screen poll, and express your support for these bills.
