2-3-22 Alert

Good Evening New Mexico Activists:

Well, we knew the Governor wouldn’t give up after her Hydrogen Hub was tabled last Friday in House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources. We learned this afternoon that the Hydrogen Hub was quietly reintroduced on Monday in SB 194 Additional Energy Acts Definitions, sponsored by Sen. George Muñoz. SB 194 simply amends the existing Rural Electric Cooperative Act and Renewable Energy Act to add “clean hydrogen electric generation facility” to the approved sources of electricity generation. Pretty sneaky. We need all hands on deck to stop this bill!

So, on Tues., Feb. 8, 9 a.m., Rm. 311, Senate Conservation is scheduled to hear SB 194 Additional Energy Acts Definitions. Please start calling and emailing committee members today to urge them to vote against this bill! The arguments against SB 194 are the same as they were for HB 4. So please read the talking points at the link above and contact committee members right away. We also encourage you to join the Zoom webinar using the link below to offer public comments and express your opposition to this bill.

A little guidance: Please choose 2-3 talking points from the link above to include in your email to committee members. Also consider including a link to the page itself. And in your Subject line (in case the email isn’t opened) write something like: “Please OPPOSE the new Hydrogen Hub bill, SB 194 Additional Energy Acts Definitions.”

Join the Zoom webinar at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86543845863. Or via telephone US: +1-253-215-8782. Webinar ID: 865 4384 5863. Or you can watch the Webcast at nmlegis.gov. Please note that the Webcast is not interactive — you cannot participate in polls, raise your hand, or offer comment while watching the Webcast.

Opposition to Clean Future Act

Also, please write to and call your House member today to oppose HB 6 Clean Future Act. We need to make it very clear to our legislators that we OPPOSE this bill! HB 6 passed House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources last Friday with a 5:4 vote to pass “without recommendation,” which is a lukewarm endorsement, and sent along to House Government, Elections & Indian Affairs. No hearing scheduled yet, but it should be coming soon, so please write to your own House Member and to the committee members below right away to tell them to oppose HB 6.
