A reminder about two other Wednesday hearings, from yesterday’s Alert:
Weds., Feb. 3, 9.am., the Senate Rules Committee is scheduled to hear SJR 3 Environmental Rights, aka the Green Amendment (click the link in the bill title for talking points), and the Fusion Voting bill, SB 100 Major & Minor Party Ballot Nominations. SB 100 is on our Priority list, not our Transformational list, so we don’t have extensive talking points. Brief description: With fusion voting, a candidate can appear on the ballot as the nominee for more than one party — for instance, Democratic and Working Families parties — allowing a voter to support both the candidate and party platform of their choice. Voters have the option to vote for the party line that best represents their values. Fusion voting means two parties are working to get a candidate elected instead of one.
The deadline to participate in the hearing and offer public comment has passed, but you can watch it at nmlegis.gov by going to Webcast at the top menu bar and finding the committee. Please call and email committee members this morning and ask them to support the bill. Committee contact info is also below. Email subject line: “Please vote ‘yes’ on SJR 3 and SB 100.”
