Good Afternoon, New Mexico Activists:
We have three hearings tomorrow afternoon: HJR 8 Legislative Salaries, HB 7 Reproductive & Gender-Affirming Health Care, and SB 19 Law Enforcement & Public Safety Telecomm. And we have a hearing on Friday morning: HB 431 Local Govt. Utility Service Restrictions, a bill we strongly OPPOSE.
NEW: On Weds., March 1, 1:30 p.m., Room 309, House Judiciary will hear HJR 8 Legislative Salaries. HJR 8 would, if approved by voters, amend the constitution to allow for legislative salaries and create a 9-member citizen commission to establish, adjust, and limit salaries. Learn how New Mexico would benefit from a modernized legislature, including legislative salaries, at this link. Please email and call committee members today to urge them to vote “YES” on HJR 8.

NEW: On Weds., March 1, 1:30 p.m., Room 311, Senate Health & Public Affairs will hear HB 7 Reproductive & Gender-Affirming Health Care, listed first on the agenda. HB 7 would protect access to reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare, including psychological, behavioral, surgical, pharmaceutical and medical care to support a person’s gender identify and that same care related to pregnancy prevention, abortion, pregnancy loss, fertility, STDs, and more. It prohibits discrimination against a person’s use or refusal of reproductive healthcare services and prohibits restricting or interfering with a person’s access to reproductive or gender-affirming healthcare. It also prohibits prosecution or punishment for accessing these types of healthcare. HB 7 passed on the House Floor last week, 38:21, so it has a good chance of getting through! Please call and email committee members today to urge them to vote “YES” on HB 7.

NEW: On Fri., March 3, 8:30 a.m., Room 305, House Govt., Elections & Indian Affairs will hear HB 431 Local Govt. Utility Service Restrictions, a bill we OPPOSE. This bill is designed to undermine local jurisdictions from implementing Local Choice Energy, and supporters are spreading lies to scare people about what could happen if it doesn’t pass. Please read the talking points at the link in the bill title above. HB 431 passed House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources 10 days ago when Democratic Reps. Cynthia Borrego and Miguel Garcia voted with Republicans to pass the bill. It’s time to kill this bill in HGEIC! Please call and email committee members over the next two days to urge them to vote “NO” on HB 431.
