2-23-23 Alert

Good Afternoon, New Mexico Activists:

We have three new hearings to tell you about: Healthcare Cost Drivers on Friday morning, a sneaky hydrogen bill (we OPPOSE HB 12) on Saturday morning, and a radioactive waste bill on Saturday afternoon. Thank you for reading and acting!

On Fri., Feb. 24, 8:30 a.m., Room 307, House Health & Human Services will hear HB 293 Analyze Healthcare Cost Drivers. HB 293 calls for directing $400K to the Legislative Council Service to hire a contractor to analyze healthcare cost drivers and identify ways the state could reduce healthcare costs. This is one of the bills that will pave the way to pass the Health Security Act in a future session. When people must choose between paying rent and paying for essential medications, you know the system is broken!

Please call and email committee members today to urge them to vote “YES” on HB 293. Offer public comment in person or via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84266137922. Or One tap mobile US: +16699009128, 84266137922# or +17193594580, 84266137922#. Webinar ID: 842 6613 7922. Or watch the Webcast at this link.

On Sat., Feb. 25, 9 a.m., Room 317, House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources will hear HB 12 Advanced Energy Technology Act which we OPPOSE. You’ll find talking points in the link at the bill title above. While purporting to set up a fund to be used to support “advanced energy technology,” a closer look at this bill reveals that “carbon capture, sequestration, transport utilization and storage system” are included in the definition of advanced energy technology. Carbon capture and sequestration is at the heart of all grey hydrogen production, a process that has never worked anywhere in the world. This appears to be another attempt to sneak hydrogen production into state legislation. Please read the talking points and then contact committee members today to urge them to vote “NO” on HB 12.
