Green Amendment, Fusion Voting, Repeal Abortion Ban
Good Morning New Mexico Advocates:
We have two new hearings tomorrow, Wednesday, and one reminder for Senate Conservation this morning at 9 a.m.
NEW: Weds., Feb. 3, 9.am., the Senate Rules Committee is scheduled to hear SJR 3 Environmental Rights, aka the Green Amendment (click the link in the bill title for talking points), and the Fusion Voting bill, SB 100 Major & Minor Party Ballot Nominations. SB 100 is on our Priority list, not our Transformational list, so we don’t have extensive talking points. Brief description: With fusion voting, a candidate can appear on the ballot as the nominee for more than one party — for instance, Democratic and Working Families parties — allowing a voter to support both the candidate and party platform of their choice. Voters have the option to vote for the party line that best represents their values. Fusion voting means two parties are working to get a candidate elected instead of one.
Instructions to offer public comment are below – please note the deadline is today at 4 p.m. Or you can watch the hearing at nmlegis.gov by going to Webcast at the top menu bar and finding the committee. Please call and email committee members before the hearing and ask them to support the bill. Committee contact info is also below.
For Public Participation send an email to SRC@nmlegis.gov with Name, Entity Represented, Bill #, For or Against, and email address by 4:00p.m. on Tuesday, February 2. You will be contacted by our Zoom operator with virtual meeting instructions.
