House State Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee (HSEIC)

CARRIED OVER: Fri., Feb. 19, 1:30 p.m. (or ½ hr. after floor session), Senate Judiciary: SB 66 Permitted Percentage Rates for Loans. This bill would lower the predatory lending rate from 175% to 36%. NEW: Sat., Feb. 20, 1 p.m., House Judiciary: HB 20 Healthy Workplaces Act, which creates mandatory paid sick leave for all New Mexico employees.Get talking points for HB 20 at the link above. Also on the agenda is HB 124 State Agency Sensitive Info, whichprohibits state agencies from disclosing sensitive personal information such as a person’s status as a recipient of public assistance or as a crime victim, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental disability, medical condition, immigration status, national origin or religion, and social security number or tax ID number.

CARRIED OVER: Mon., Feb. 22, 8 a.m. House State Govt., Elections and Indian Affairs: HB 9 Climate Solutions Act was carried over from earlier this week. We don’t have a full summary for you, but HB 9 would create a state Climate Leadership Council with a diverse membership from across departments, tribes, local govts., impacted communities, and more. House State Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee (HSEIC)

NEW: Mon., Feb. 22, 1:30 p.m., House Commerce & Economic Development: HB 110 Phased Minimum Wage Increase. HB 110 would accelerate the scheduled raises to the minimum wage. It would also delete federal exclusions for employees working in an executive, administrative, sales, or professional capacity; engaged in educational, charitable, religious, or nonprofit organizations; and paid by piecework, flat-rate schedules, or commissions. HB 110 deletes exclusions to the minimum wage for tipped, food processing, agricultural, and seasonal employees, as well as registered apprentices and trainees. It also deletes the exclusion for those 18 or younger who aren’t students. Please call and email committee members on Friday to ask them to support this bill.
