1-27-22 Alert

Good Afternoon, Friends and Advocates:

Wow, the pace is fast and furious at the Roundhouse this week! We have lots of great bills coming up for hearings on Friday and Saturday, including HJR 9 Independent Redistricting Commission, HM 22 Study Low-Income Basic Income, HB 34 Solar Market Development Tax Credit Extension, and HB 132 Interest Rates for Certain Loan. Three hearings are tomorrow (Friday) morning at 8:30 or 9 a.m., so you’ll have to move quickly!

First, some very good news: HB 4 Hydrogen Hub Development Act was TABLED in House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources just moments ago (2:30 p.m.) by a vote of 6:4. A very welcome surprise! We are strongly against this bill, and you will understand why if you read the talking points at the link above. Anything can happen, and who would have guessed that we owe this tabling to the Republicans! Here’s the vote to table (basically, kill) the bill: McQueen (D)-Yes; Sariñana (D)-No; Barrerras – Excused (absent); Dixon (D)-No; Garcia(D)-Yes; Herndon (D)-No; Montoya(R)-Yes; Ortez(D)-No; Scott(R)-Yes; Strickler(R)-Yes; Townsend(R)-Yes. Sponsor, Rep. Patty Lundstrom, may have something up her sleeve to get this bill back into circulation (maybe a Senate version?), but for now HB 4 is off the table. Yay! Now let’s look at upcoming hearings:

Fri., Jan. 28, 8:30 a.m., Rm. 305, House Govt., Elections & Indian Affairs is scheduled to hear HJR 9 Independent Redistricting Commission. Please read the talking points at the link in the bill title and call and email committee members today!
