Greetings, New Mexico Activists:
We have a few last-minute notices about hearings tomorrow. Yes, we’re barely keeping up with everything that’s going on! Send email tonight and call in the morning if you can. If you get this message in time, please join our Huddle at 6 p.m. tonight. Register at this link. So much to talk about!
On Thursday, Jan. 26, 9 a.m., Rm. 311, Senate Conservation will hear SB 57 Water Trust Fund. Introduced by Senator Peter Wirth, SB 57 will transfer $250M from the General Fund to the Water Trust fund in FY 2023. We don’t have much info on this bill, but we know that water is a critical issue in our state, the Water Trust Fund has been underfunded for many years, and those monies are used to fund the Water Trust Board, which authorizes spending on water infrastructure projects.
Please use the contact list below to email committee members tonight and call them in the morning to urge them to vote “YES” on SB 57. You can attend the meeting in person, watch via Webcast at this link, or participate in the meeting Zoom. To join the Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7739881331 or via telephone US: +1 253 215 8782. Meeting ID: 773 988 1331. Email written comments to SCONC.comm1@nmlegis.gov.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, 1:30 p.m., Rm. 315, House Labor, Veterans, & Military Affairs will hear HB 25 Minimum Wage Increase & Indexing, which was carried over from a long discussion on Tuesday. It’s first on the agenda. HB 25, introduced by Reps. Christine Chandler and Patricia Roybal Caballero, would increase the state minimum wage to $16/hr. (currently $12) beginning Jan. 1, 2024, and annually thereafter provide an adjustment based on inflation. You’ll find talking points at the link in the bill title above. This is getting a lot of push-back already, mostly to lower the increase, so it needs our support!
If you didn’t do this earlier in the week, please use the contact list below to email committee members tonight and call in the morning to urge them to vote “YES” on HB 25. You can attend the meeting in person, watch via Webcast at this link, or participate in the meeting Zoom. To offer public comment, you need to be there in person or participate via Zoom.
